Keep Your Unit Clear of Debris

During late fall and early winter, extra debris from falling leaves and storms can begin to pile up around your heating unit. To ensure your unit is operating under the best conditions possible, keep it free of debris and clear a two foot circle around the unit. A word of caution: never use a sharp object to remove ice or snow. This could cause damage to your heating unit and result in repair and replacement. If your HVAC unit is clogged beyond your ability to clean, call Controlled Aire Heating and Cooling for service.

Prune Trees Properly

Winter weather conditions can be especially hazardous for trees. When they’re bare of leaves, the branches are more susceptible to breaking due to the accumulation of heavy ice and snow, or from sharp winter wind. If you have trees near your outdoor unit, make sure to have any at-risk branches regularly trimmed or pruned to prevent them from falling on your unit and damaging it. If this did happen, you can always call our team for timely repair.

Cover and Insulate Your Pipes

Any pipes or tubes on your unit that are exposed to the elements should be covered and insulated prior to reaching freezing temperatures. When freezing temperatures arrive, pipes are prone to bursting; so it’s important they are protected when the temperatures drop. If your pipes do burst, just give Controlled Heating and Cooling a call. We’ll come maintenance your pipes and restore them to working order.

Schedule Regular, Preventative Maintenance

Scheduling regular maintenance and inspections on your HVAC unit is the best way to prevent problems and detect areas in need of repair. You can make a maintenance appointment with one of our skilled HVAC service technicians. We’ll clean and replace air filters, clean the blower motor, replace or repair parts, check for issues and ensure your HVAC system is performing at peak efficiency.
